Lord, I come to you in the name of Jesus to thank you for the early Christian knowledge received in my life from St Christopher's around 1950 (for a couple of years at age 13 and 14).

Since then I have grown in You, making You my Lord and Saviour, and ask Lord if there is a lady at St Christopher's who is willing to become a Prayer Partner on various issues, and with whom to share thoughts.

This song which we sung in our church this morning expresses where I'm at, and may be helpful to someone.

"This is my desire to honour You. Lord with ALL my heart I worship You. All I have within me I give you Praise. ALL that I adore is in You. Lord I give you my heart, I give you my soul, I live for you alone, every breath that I take, every moment I'm awake, Lord have YOUR way in me."

Lord I ask that you Bless every person in this church, answer their prayer requests, and supply their needs. In Jesus' name I pray.

Thankyou Lord.

The Bible and Prayer

Prayer is the way that we communicate with God. The Bible is full of advice on how to pray. Jesus  prayed  often and gave his apostles a model for speaking to God.

God wants us to pray.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know..” (Jeremiah 33: 3)
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1: 5)

Jesus assumes that we will pray to God,

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matt. 6: 6)
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matt. 7: 7)
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—.” (1 Tim. 2: 1)

Prayer requires faith.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Heb. 11: 6)
"Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you!” (Matt. 17: 20)
. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5: 14)
“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?” (Luke 18: 7)

Prayer with an attitude of humility and repentance.

“ If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;.” (Psalm 66: 18)
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Mathew 6:5-15

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
This, then, is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
